Dr Nick Maxwell

Dr. Nick Maxwell is the principal dentist and owner of the practice in Brighton and Hove. His passion for dentistry began many years ago, and he remains dedicated to providing exceptional care to every patient.

He qualified with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from King’s College London in 1998 and has pursued extensive postgraduate education to ensure the highest standard of care. In 2013, he completed a Master of Science (MSc) in Restorative & Aesthetic Dentistry from the University of Manchester, refining his ability to craft beautiful and functional smiles. In 2024, he further expanded his clinical expertise by earning a Postgraduate Diploma (PG Dip with Merit) in Orthodontics & Facial Orthopaedics.

Cosmetic dentistry is a particular passion of Dr. Maxwell’s. He is captivated by the transformative impact of a confident smile and is committed to using the latest advancements in dental technology to deliver outstanding results. His practice embraces 3D dentistry, incorporating advanced software and 3D printing to offer treatments such as digital smile design, custom 3D printed veneers, traditional porcelain veneers, and artistic composite bonding.

In addition to aesthetic treatments, Dr. Maxwell has a strong interest in orthodontics. He enjoys helping patients of all ages achieve straighter teeth and improved bites, offering both fixed braces and clear aligner systems.

At the heart of his approach lies a dedication to excellent general dentistry. He provides high-quality, tooth-coloured composite fillings and takes particular pride in restoring worn and damaged mouths, addressing complex cases, and preserving natural teeth for long-term health and function.

Dr Sylvia Kraftt

With over 15 years of experience as a general dentist in both Germany and the UK, Sylvia is known for her calm, patient-centred approach and dedication to clinical excellence. Her work with charitable dental organisations in the UK and the United States reflects her strong commitment to accessible, compassionate care.

Sylvia focuses on minimally invasive, preventative dentistry, using the latest techniques to ensure every visit is both comfortable and effective. She’s passionate about creating a positive experience for each patient, and those visiting the practice for the first time can expect the same friendly, welcoming atmosphere we’re known for—paired with her highly personalised care.

Kitty Ingarfield

Dentist

Since graduating from The University of Plymouth in 2022, Kitty has gained diverse experience through rotations in general practice, community dental service, and the Maxillofacial Department at Royal Surrey Hospital. After completing her foundation and core training, Kitty took a six-month break to travel South-East Asia and Australia, an experience that has enriched her perspective. Since returning to the UK, Kitty has been working as an associate dentist and emergency dental care provider across Sussex and Surrey.

Kitty is developing an interest in oral surgery, endodontics, and paediatric dentistry, but is excited to explore all facets of dentistry. With experience providing clear aligners and composite bonding, Kitty is keen to help patients achieve a healthy and beautiful smile.

As well as providing dental care, Kitty is also excited to be able to offer facial aesthetics consultations at St. Mary’s House. Her training with the Avanti Aesthetics Academy has enabled her to offer multiple treatments including anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers.

Kitty is passionate about delivering patient-centred care and finds it especially rewarding to create a reassuring and comfortable environment for anxious patients.

Beyond dentistry, Kitty enjoys sewing, running, and playing music.

Sara Burden

Dental Hygienist

Sara qualified from Birmingham Dental School in 1990 and brings over 30 years of expertise in dental hygiene, spanning general practice, specialist care, and research. Known for her gentle, thorough approach, she has a natural ability to put patients at ease, ensuring a comfortable and reassuring experience.

With a keen interest in acute gum conditions and the connection between nutrition and gum health, Sara takes a holistic approach to oral care. She is passionate about prevention and often integrates practical dietary advice into her hygiene appointments, helping patients achieve long-term oral health.

Sara has also contributed to dental research and remains committed to staying at the forefront of periodontal care through regular professional development.

Outside of work, she enjoys keeping fit, cooking, and spending time in the countryside. With two grown-up children, she values the balance between family life and her dedication to helping patients maintain healthier smiles.

Evgenia Georgieva (Jenny)

Dental Hygienist

Jenny is a dental hygienist who graduated with a First Class degree from the University of Portsmouth in 2024. She is dedicated to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care with a strong focus on prevention, periodontal health, and long-term oral wellbeing.

Jenny is known for her calm and approachable manner, helping patients feel at ease during their visits. She places great importance on clear communication, providing tailored oral hygiene instruction and education to support effective plaque control and gum disease prevention.

Her clinical interests include the management of periodontal disease, non-surgical periodontal therapy, and personalised treatment planning to help patients maintain healthy, confident smiles.

Outside of work, Jenny enjoys going to the gym and spending quality time with her family.

Joanna Dobson

Practice Manager

Joanna brings over 30 years of experience in finance and business operations, including 19 years at Lloyds Bank specialising in business banking. For the past 15 years, she has served as a Finance and Operations Director, developing expertise in strategic planning, operational efficiency, and financial management.

In addition to her ongoing role, Joanna now supports St Mary’s as a part-time Practice Manager, working closely with the dental team two days a week. She focuses on financial oversight, compliance, and operational support, ensuring a smooth, welcoming experience for patients and staff alike.

Outside of work, Joanna enjoys swimming, tennis, and travelling.  A natural people person, she thrives on building strong relationships and bringing energy and enthusiasm to everything she does—both professionally and personally.

Gillian Bentley

Lead Nurse

Gillian has been with St Mary’s House Dental Care now for 25 years. She is a true asset to the practice whose meticulous standards and attention to detail are exemplary. Her kind and gentle manner is very much appreciated by our patients. GIllian is an avid swimmer and really enjoys socialising.

Sophia Ball

Dental Nurse & Receptionist

Sophia joined us in June 2018 relocating to Shoreham from Emsworth, she came to us with 10 years dental experience she studied for a Diploma in Dental Nursing in 2013, at Portsmouth Highbury College and has both NHS and private practice experience. Sophia enjoys all the variety that dental nursing offers and being part of busy team helping to care for our many patients. She’s developed a keen interest in facial aesthetics and the difference they can make to people’s lives.

Caitlin Brown

Caitlin joined us at St Mary’s House Dental Care in April 2026. She been working in the healthcare sector for over 10 years and brings a warm, friendly approach to her role as a dental nurse. She’s known for her calm and reassuring manner, helping patients feel at ease and well cared for during their visits. Before moving into dentistry 3 years ago, Caitlin spent two years working alongside the ambulance service, where she gained valuable experience allowing her connect easily with patients and provide a positive, supportive experience.

Outside of work, Caitlin enjoys spending time outdoors with her family hiking, cycling, camping and exploring the best waterfalls and beaches around the UK.

Marianne Fawbert

Receptionist

With over 20 years of experience in both reception and dental nursing, Marianne brings a wealth of knowledge to the team, particularly in oral surgery under sedation. She has a calm, reassuring manner and a genuine talent for helping nervous patients feel at ease throughout their visit.

After stepping away from dentistry to raise her family—a chapter she thoroughly enjoyed—Marianne joined the St Mary’s team in 2024 as part of our reception team. She’s proud to be part of a practice that shares her passion for patient care and teamwork.

Outside the clinic, Marianne enjoys swimming, cycling, and countryside walks with her family.
